About the show

First Half

Copland Fanfare for the Common Man (5 minutes)
You might recognise this truly spine-tingling music from films and TV but no recording can ever compare with the exhilarating experience of hearing it live.

Orchestrate (10 minutes)
We’re unleashing the potential of young people by supporting schools to set up and write music for their own orchestras. We are so proud of the creativity and quality of the work being produced by the young musicians at Bobby Moore Academy that we’re putting them centre stage with us, with performances of The Wagon Passes from Edward Elgar’s Nursery Suite and Aquarium from Saint-Saëns The Carnival of the Animals

Barber Violin Concerto (25 minutes)
Beautifully hummable melodies and a short, astounding display of virtuosity combine in this breathtaking showcase for violin performed by Kristine Balanas.

After the interval

Prokofiev Sonata for Two Violins (5 minutes)
Kristine Balanas is joined by Maren Bosma, our orchestra leader, to open the second half of the concert. Enjoy seeing these two musicians up-close as they leave the stage and join you in the audience.

Manuel de Falla El amor Brujo (Love Bewitched) (24 minutes)
Telling the story of a young gypsy woman whose new love affair is haunted by the ghost of her husband, this seductive set of flamenco-inspired dances and songs takes you straight into the heat and promise of an Andalusian night.
